ByKay Woven Wrap Review
Woven wraps are something that I love to use for babywearing, you can front, hip or back carry using them. There are many different ways of tying them and YouTube is a great way to discover and learn how to do it, or even find a local babywearing group and get along to a meet!
Made from cotton/linen blend, so it needs a bit of breaking in to start with which usually involves washing and using a steam iron, but it will start softening up which helps to mold wrap when wrapping your baby. A wrap that will mold to your baby’s body is important so it’s easier to get a nice, snug carry which holds the baby close to your body and reduce strain on your back and shoulders.
- Love the denim look
- Would be cool enough for summer
- Easy to get an ergonomic carry with lots of different carries, some can be found here
- Fabric is a tad stiff so needs a bit of breaking in, but once it softens it’s lovely to wrap with
My Chiropractic Opinion on the ByKay Woven Wrap
The great thing about woven wraps is that just by wrapping correctly, you can get an ergonomic carry for you and baby! Baby can easily be held in the “C-Curve” and their pelvis, hips and knees can be supported in the “M-posture”. You can read more on my page The Importance of Ergonomics.
There are some examples of ergonomic carries can be found on ByKay’s website here.
A Day In The Life Of…
A review of the ByKay Woven Wrap in my daily activities
Getting baby into carrier in the car park It’s fairly easy for a front carry, but with long lengths of wrap they will tend to drag on the ground.
Is it easier to put it on before leaving the house? No, you will have to wrap when you get out of the car
How supported is the baby in the ByKay? Very supported depending on the size of your baby and the type of carry you choose to do.
Is it easy to carry my baby bag with carrier on? Yes, it is quite easy.
Can I hold my older child’s hand with the carrier on? Yes.
Does it feel hands-free? Yes, it does and I feel I can use both hands when needed
How supported is baby when they fall asleep? quite supportive depending on the type of carry chosen
Can I breastfeed while wearing the baby in the ByKay? I have found I need to take baby out of the wrap first but the wrap can make a great breastfeeding cover if you wanted.
Can I bend down to pick up toys, laundry etc? Yes, but even though his body is well supported, I always put my hand behind his head.
Can I sit down while wearing it? Yes but also dependent on the carry you choose
How does it feel after 30 minutes? Great! I found it easy to wear for prolonged periods.
Does it pass the late afternoon/dinner time test? ie; the witching hour! Yes, you can cuddle baby while you work!
Can it hold a toddler? Yes, but it’s best to learn some double layered carries though to add support
